Despite the television myth helpless viewers are subjected to all hours of the day and night geckos cannot talk like humans, drive cars, play golf, or sell insurance. Most geckos can’t even blink their eyes and as a result have to lick their own eyes so that they stay clean and moist. Geckos are lizards, and are found in warm climates around the world including Kevin's apartment porch during the summer months. They can range in size from the smallest, the Jaragua sphaero, which can fit on a quarter, to the biggest, Delcourt's giant gecko, which was native to New Zealand. Now believed to be extinct thanks to European colonization in the late 1800s that wiped out native plants and brought rats and stoats (a type of weasel), this gecko could be as long as two feet. Nocturnal creatures known for eating insects, geckos are a great natural mosquito control.
